Gabbar Singh Movie Review
Gabbar Singh is an official remake of Salman Khan’s Dabangg but it is tweaked to give a native flavour. Certain characters and episodes have been added or modified or deleted from the original to make the Telugu film showcase the heroics of Pawan Kalyan.
Venkat Ratnam Naidu (Pawan Kalyan) has a doting mother (Suhasini). Since he likes the villain role played by Amjad Khan in Sholay, he calls himself Gabbar Singh. He is fearless and as a police officer he is too bold to be just conventional. He gets a posting to his native village Kondaveedu and he falls in love with Bhagyalakshmi (Shruti Haasan). However, he had to confront Siddappa Naidu (Abhimanyu Singh) who is the local goon who creates problems for his family and for his romance. What is the connection between Siddappa Naidu and the stepfather (Nagineedu) of Venkat Ratnam Naidu? How does Gabbar Singh overcome the challenges? Answers to these questions lead to a highly charged climax.
The film is structured to showcase Pawan Kalyan in his best elements of action thrills, comedy frills, dancing drills and emoting skills and the actor comes out on top as the sole character dominating the entire proceedings. He has the ease of performing and his punch lines add to the entertainment. Shruthi Hasan is glamorous and impressive. Abhimanyu Singh oozes with villainy. Suhasini and Nagineedu are subdued. Ali and Brahmanandam give their dose of laughter medicine. Rao Ramesh, Gayatri, Ajay, Kota Srinivasa Rao and Tanikella Bharani are ok in their cameos.
Like the original Hindi film, the remade Gabbar Singh also doesn’t have a strong story lines but the principal characters have been etched properly. The screenplay adds to the narration speed though there is a bit of lump in the second half. Dialogues are well written. Music is very good and the songs are picturised well. The cinematography is vibrant. Production values are high.
Gabbar Singh is a mass masala film with something for every section of the audience who are attuned to mainstream cinema. It is high on entertainment values and you will enjoy the film.
