Freida Pinto in Michael Winterbottom's Trishna

Freida Pinto, who starred in the multiple Oscar-winning David Boyle’s film Slumdog Millionaire, is signed up to play the lead role in the film Trishna, which is a contemporary adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles.

The film is being made by Michael Winterbottom who has helmed the film The Road to Guantanamo. David Bryan, the art director of The Hurt Locker and A Mighty Heart, is the production designer of the film. This film will be shot in Rajasthan.

The male lead will be played by singer-actor Riz Ahmed, who has played the lead in Winterbottom’s The Road to Guantanamo, Eran Creevy’s Shifty and Chris Morris’ Four Lions.

The story of Trishna narrates the relationship between the son of a wealthy British property developer who comes to Rajasthan on a vacation and the daughter of an autorickshaw owner.
