Filmmaker Omung Kumar Wins National Award for Debut Film

The filmmaker Omung Kumar, who came up with the great success directorial debut in Bollywood with “Mary Kom” the film on the life of boxing champion M.C. Mary Kom, had won a National Film Award on Tuesday after receiving he was full of over whelmed an d excitement and says He says it’s the biggest high for him ever.

The story and screenplay were written by Saiwyn Quadras, who also suggested the storyline to Kumar for his directorial debut. The film stars Priyanka Chopra in the lead role as the boxer Mary Kom, with Darshan Kumar and Sunil Thapa supporting as her husband, Onler Kom and M. Narjit Singh respectively. The film saw Priyanka Chopra embodying the role of the Manipur sportswoman.

The filmmaker Omung Kumar message to IANS says-“Winning a National Award for my first film is the biggest high I could have got. God, I can’t believe it.”

He also added-“I’m sitting in Malaysia right now and getting to know this news from people, and I couldn’t understand first as to did we get nominated or did we win, and then finally when I came to know that it really happened, I just couldn’t believe it. It’s a dream come true for a debut director. Thank you all for your support.”

Priyanka’s on-screen husband Darshan Kumar was ably supported, however which Mary Kom herself stepped out in the film promotion arena
