Film Industry strategies for MBA: IIM-A and Harvard collaborate

India’s premier Business school, the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) imparts a course on Contemporary Film Industry: a business perspective. IIM-A is now in in talks with a faculty of Harvard Business School to use Hollywood practices for management education.

Kandaswamy Bharathan, IIM-A visiting faculty and producer of hit films like Roja, who designed the course, says that a film is made with 200 people and a particular budget in a short span of 15-20 months and if a management student wants to set up a Rs 50 crore factory within a short time, he can take cross sectoral learnings from the film industry through this course.

The IIM-A and Harvard collaboration may result in combined case studies on Hollywood and Bollywood movies, with an aim to study how MBA methodology and film industry strategies can be helpful for each other.

The Contemporary Film Industry course has also attracted recruitment interest from prominent companies in the industry like UTV Pictures, Reliance Big, Mumbai Mantra among others.
