Veteran Director Raja Mouli who was engaged in a tussle with Producer Chanti over the repayment of Rs.5 Lakh advance he has taken from him, met his end with the ban imposed by Film chamber for a period of six months along with a fine of Rs.20 Lakhs as interest for the principle amount.
Raja Mouli and the Producer Chanti were planned to make a film in the year 2002. But, due to some unknown reasons the project was cancelled and the Producer asked Mouli to return the advance for which Mouli is denying.
According to film producers agreement with the other members of the industry, if a film is cancelled without taking a single shot, who ever took the advance has to return it to the producer, if he asks them to return. Simultaneously, even if a single shot was filmed Producer will lose his right to ask the refund from the artists and other technicians including Director. In this case, producer Chanti is justified of his demand because the film was cancelled before it goes to sets.
