Endukante….Premanta is supposed to be a gripping tale of love, romance and revenge. It has a tripping past that has a crippling effect on the present. The twists and turns try to make the film a tense romantic tale with tensile action, but the premise is questionable.
In 1980 in Vizag, Krishna (Ram) is in love with Srinidhi (Tamanna) but both of them die in an accident. They are reborn and in 2012 Sravanthi (Tamanna) and Ram (Ram) again come closer but in Paris. Then it is revealed that Srinidhi is in coma in Hyderabad and Sravanthi is her soul. Then a string of baddies are there for Ram to take care of and save the damsel in distress..
Ram is a bundle of unlimited energy and he infuses his character with all the ebullience at his command, but his role is not etched properly. Tamanna is glamour personified and emotes well. Kona Venkat is unimpressive. Sayaji Shinde and Rishi carry themselves well. Brahmanandam,Krishna Bhagawan and Raghu Babu tickle the funny bone. All others are ok in their roles.
The film is a rehash of the Mark Waters directed 2005 English film Just Like Heaven which was an adaptation of the novel If Only It Was True by Mark Levy.
Karunakaran wanted to fit the theme of the English film in the format of a mainstream entertainer and failed with a poorly written story by Kona Venkat, not very melodious music by GV Prakash Kumar, routine choreography by Ganesh and Rakshit and formula action by Peter Heins. The only redeeming feature is the vibrant cinematography by Andrew.
The screenplay has the proper pitch and pinch but the premise of a spirit in love with a human is too fallacious to be acceptable. Dialogues are contemporary. The technical values are not upto the mark,
The film Endukante….Premanta is meant to be mainstream entertainment movie fare but it has no frills, drills, trills, grills, prills, chills, shrills and thrills.
The director is too liberal with the cinematic license and the copycat premise from Just Like Heaven becomes a wild cat of intolerable fallacy. Paranormal themes should not be treated with mainstream masala menu. Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo are so endearing in the original Hollywood movie which was co-produced by Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks.
The film Endukante….Premanta is surely a disappointment to Ram and Tamanna.
