Don 2 gets legal notice for copyright violation

Shah Rukh Khan’s forthcoming film Don 2 – The chase continues directed by Farhan Akhtar has run into legal trouble from the makers of the original Don (1978) starring Amitabh Bachchan.

Advocates Mr. Digvijay Chopra and Miss Iva Bansal of Film India Corporate Legam Law Firm, on behalf of Don copyright holders Nariman Films, issued legal notices to Don 2 producers Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Shahrukh Khan for violation of remake copyrights.

Javed Akhtar, father of Farhan Akhtar, who wrote the script for Big B’s Don along with Salim Khan had approached Nariman Films for the remake rights and got them based on which Don – The chase Begins Again (2005) was made.

Now, the contention of Nariman Films is that no specific remake rights have been given for making Don 2 while Sidhwani maintains that it is a remake of their own film Don released in 2005.
