Deepti Naval’s directorial debut premieres at Cannes
Actress-turned-director Deepti Naval’s directorial debut “Do Paise Ki Dhoop Char Aane Ki Baarish” premiered at the on going 62nd Cannes Film Festival in France. The film about gays and prostitutes was screened in the market section here to a positive response. The star cast of the film includes Manisha Koirala, Rajit Kapur and Sanaj Naval.
“Do Paise Ki Dhoop Char Aane Ki Baaris” is the story of a struggling gay lyricist, an ageing prostitute and her physically challenged 12-year-old son. However, neither the female prostitute nor the gay man appear stereotypical in the film. This is a modern presentation of sensitive and realistic portrait of people struggling to find happiness.
Naval says the film is essentially about the ebbs and tides of human relationships. She says that she has not made this film only for the festival circuit, but she wants to reach out to filmgoers across India and the world.
Naval’s film has attracted the attention of film critics and die hard cine buffs.
