Deepa Mehta’s next is Rushdie's “Midnight's Children”

Acclaimed director Deepa Mehta has proved her mettle with films like “Earth”, “Water’ and “Fire”. She now has the filming rights of Salman Rushdie’s Booker Award winning 1981 novel “Midnight’s Children”.

Hollywood has been trying to make a film out of this novel which was chosen for the Booker of Bookers award twice, but Salman Rushdie finally gave the rights to Deepa Mehta. This film will be produced by David Hamilton and directed by Deepa Mehta.

Shabana Azmi, Nandita Das and Seema Biswas have already been signed up for “Midnight’s Children” and the film will go to floors in 2010.

At present Deepa Mehta is filming a period epic “Kamagatamaru” with Akshay Kumar.
