De Dana Dan is a typical Priyadarshan comedy with mistaken identities, outrageous criminal intent percolating down to comic revelry, boys going all out to get their girls at any cost and much more that just gives you the laughs.
The story is set in Singapore. Nitin (Akshay Kumar) is a handyman and odd job to a wealthy businesswoman (Archana Puran Singh) and wants to get rich and marry his lady love Anjali (Katrina Kaif).
Ram (Suniel Shetty), a close buddy of Nitin arrives in Singapore with an intention of becoming rich but lands in a low key job. He falls in love with Manpreet (Sameera Reddy) whose parents want a rich, classy son-in-law.
Harbans (Paresh Rawal), is a crooked businessman always thinking of making easy money. He wants his son (Chunky Pandey) to marry a girl from a rich family who can give hefty dowry. He decides on taking Manpreet as his daughter-in-law.
Meanwhile, Nitin and Ram find it difficult to get rich quick and hatch a kidnap plan. The crime plan goes awry and to escape the consequences, they hide in a hotel. They discover that Manpreet’s wedding is being held in the same hotel. With Ram deciding to get Manpreet at any cost, a series of events unfold creating a laugh riot. Coming on to the scene are varied characters like a government bigwig (Vikram Gokhale), an underworld don (Asrani), a killer for hire (Johny Lever), a police officer (Sharat Saxena), a runaway wife (Aditi Govitrikar), a night club dancer (Neha Dhupia), a leering sex craving crook (Shakti Kapoor), a perpetual drunkard (Rajpal Yadav) who complicate the proceedings further.
Will Nitin and Ram realize their dreams and marry their girl friends? A hilarious climax to the comedy of errors answers that question.
Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal and Archana Puran Singh, as usual in Priyadarshan film, give out their best. Katrina Kaif, Sameera Reddy and Neha Dhupia provide the glamour quotient. Asrani, Chunky Pandey, Johny Lever, Manoj Joshi, Shakti Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav and Tinu Anand played their cameos well. All others are adequate.
With so many characters the story appears to be slightly confusing at times, but Priyadarshan carries the narration to its logical (or illogical?) conclusion. Lot of cinematic liscences have been taken, but only in the lighter sense to make the viewrs feel funny and have a hearty laugh. Cinematograpghy by Ekambaram is very good. Music by Pritam Chakraborthy, Rdb and Ad Boys is pleasing and in some numbers foot-tapping. Back ground music by Salim-Sulaiman is good. Dialouges by Jay Master are funny and deliver the laugh punch.
De Dana Dan is an entertaining comedy and audience from different strata of society can see this fun movie and have some good laughs. Film buffs who want to differentiate between sensible cinema and meaningful movie may not enjoy this senseless but comic De Dana Dan.
