Daruvu Movie Review
Daruvu keeps the Tollywood semi-myth legacy of the film hero dying, going to Yamalokam, quarreling with Yama and returning back to earth to complete the task of teaching a lesson to his enemies and embracing his estranged lover.
Bullet Raja (Ravi Teja) is a petty con character. He falls in love with Shwetha (Tapsee) who is a student with dance master Vidya Balan (Brahmanandam). Making matters worse, don Harbour Babu (Sushanth Singh) also has an eye for Shwetha. The don and his goons kill Bullet Raja, who goes to Yamalokam and realises that his life was erroneously cut short by Chitragupta (MS Narayana). He picks up quarrel with Yama (Prabhu) who had to send him back. But, his soul is sent into the body of the Home Minister (Ravi Teja again) his look-alike. The rest of the story deals with how he gives a beating (daruvu) to his enemies.
Ravi Teja, as usual, is a bundle of energy and carries his role with aplomb. Tapsee is just a glam doll and a prop for the songs. Prabhu is grave as Yama. Brahmanandam and Vennela Kishore evoke laughter. Jayasudha is competent. Shayaji Shinde and Sushant Singh are good in their bad ways. All others are ok in their roles.
The story is not new but the soul of Bullet Raja entering the body of Rajendra, a look-alike of Bullet Raja, is squeamish and invites relational propriety. The narration is fast paced and the dialogues are funny enough. Music is ok but the picturisation of songs and their placements somehow do not do a good turn to the pace of storytelling. Technical and production values are average.
Daruvu has the stamp of Ravi Teja style of comedy-cum-action and in spite of the liberal misuse of cinematic license by director Shiva, the film has just the time-pass elements of an average entertainment.
