Court case against the film title Azaan

Prashant Chadha’s film Aazaan is now faced with a court case just weeks before its release.

Mumbai based NGO Hind Foundation has moved a local court against the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and crew of Aazaan seeking directions to restrain use of the title contending that it is hurting to the religious sentiments of Muslims.

The contention of the NGO is that holy word azaan has been used as the title of the film which is based on some terrorist story, and the movie has been categorised as an ‘A’ grade movie. Since azaan is a holy work, a very pious and sacred word for Muslim community, an Islamic invitation for prayers, the holy word can not be used by any person or organisation for their personal gain or for commercial purpose.

The producers of the film say that all publicity for the film has been done and now it will be difficult to change the title.
