Comedian Padmanabham is No More

Veteran comedian Padmanabham died of heart attack in Chennai. He was born on 20 August 1931. He was also a film producer and director. He was born to Smt. Santham and Sri. Basavaraju Venkata Seshaiah in Simhadripuram village, Pulivendula, Kadapa District. He recently acted in Telugu movies Chakram and Tata Birla Madhyalo Laila.

His full name is Basavaraju Venkata Padmanabha Rao. He began his film career in 1943 when he was just 12 with the film Maayalokam. Since then, Padmanabham acted in more than 400 movies. Shavukaaru released in 1949 was his first major hit. It also gave him a footing as a comedian. The very next year, Paatala Bhairavi came along. It helped him find a permanent place in the world of Telugu cinema.

Kathaanayika Molla, which he directed in 1969 fetched him the A.P. Government’s award. Padmanabham directed eightfilms in all. He introduced S.P. Balasubrahmanyam to the film industry through Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna.
