Tollywood actor and Congress party MLA Chiranjeevi is arriving in Visakhapatnam to attend the funeral of lyricist Jaladi Raja Rao who passed away yesterday. Jaladi wrote the popular song “Yathamesi thodina yeru yendadu, pogili pogili yeddchina… ” for Chiranjeevi’s first released film Pranam Khareedu. He also penned two duets for Chiranjeevi’s debut film Punadi Rallu.
Born on August 9, 1932, Jaladi Raja Rao participated in the freedom struggle at a very young age. He passed his SSLC with special Telugu. A gold medalist in drawing, he started his career as a drawing teacher in the District Board School in Krishna district. He wrote several plays and playlets highlighting various socio-economic problems. His stage play Karu Meghalu won awards. He later went to Madras to enter films.
Jaladi’s first song, `situkku, situkku… “, from the film `Palle Seema’ which was a folk song comparing the contours of a woman’s body with nature. His song “Ee kaalam padi kaalalu bathakalani… ” was very popular. He wrote over 2,500 songs for 275 films.
