After doing films with action backdrop like ‘Lakshmi’ and ‘Tulasi’, the same producer and hero had come out with a family entertainer called ‘Chintakayala Ravi’. Though Yogi is not a successful director, Venkatesh trusted him and encouraged him to direct his film and the director also proved that his belief was not wrong by maintaining good tempo all through the film. Besides good entertainment values, the film had different elements like love, friendship, trust, sentiment and above all the problems faced by those who go to the US in search of employment and settle with less-paid jobs.
Ravi (Venkatesh) stays in the US and make everyone believe that he was a software engineer. He never visits India saying he was busy. His mother Seshumamba (Lakshmi), like any other mom finds an alliance to him with a big family. The prospective bride Lavanya (Mamata Mohandas) who had a passion for staying abroad and moving in foreign cars agrees to the alliance. She calls up her friend Sunita (Anushka) who was in the US, to enquire about Ravi. However, Sunita finds that Ravi is not a software engineer and works as a bartender and informs the same to Lavanya. So the alliance gets cancelled. Ravi in a bid to take revenge spoils the alliance for Sunita. As a result her father gets a stroke. During his treatment Sunita finds that Ravi is a nice gentleman and kind hearted. He sacrifices his career to help for the treatment of his friend immediately after he landed in the US. As a result he remained as a bartender. This makes Sunita realise her folly and both Ravi and Sunita turn friends. Later, their friendship turns love. Meanwhile, the friend because of whom Ravi lost his career turns a big businessman in India and he goes to Lavanya’s house and reveals the truth and how gentleman Ravi is. So the family apologises to Seshumamba and appeals to fix the alliance again. Will Ravi agree to the marriage? What happened to the love between Ravi and Sunita? Did Lavanya marry Ravi or sacrifice him to her friend? Answers to all the questions form part of the climax.
Venkatesh gave an extraordinary performance all through the film. He maintained perfect comedy timing and tickled the funny bone of audiences. He excelled in the scenes filled with sentiment and at the same time, he is romantic in love scenes and duets. Anushka ignored to expose in this film and instead proved that she too could do roles which are performance-oriented. Mamata Mohandas has no big role in the film but for shaking her legs for a couple of duets with the hero. Lakshmi once again repeated her performance on the lines of ‘Murari’. Chandramohan, Sayaji Shinde and others did justice to their roles. Venumadhav, Srinivasa Reddy, Ali, Brahmanandam provided nice entertainment. Surprisingly, Ajay played a very soft role as the hero’s buddy in this film, while Nikhita paired up with him.
Director Yogesh showed good improvement from his earlier films. With Kona Venkat penning the story and dialogues that suit the body language of Venkatesh, it has become very easy to run the movie. In addition, Kona Venkat provided additional screenplay and assisted in running the movie with a good tempo. Lyrics by Chandrabose are average. Music by Vishal-Shekhar remained a big draw back of the movie. But for a couple of songs like ‘Valla Valla Valla Baby… ‘ and ‘Baagunde…’ none others are worth listening. Background score by Manisharma helped in elevation of certain scenes. Camera work by Ravindrababu is okay and he maintained good lighting all through the film. He was able to capture the beauty of the US with his camera well. Editing by Srikarbabu is normal and not very great to talk about.
The producer and director managed to bring NTR and give a special appearance in the film in a song scenes. He shook legs with Venkatesh and enthralled the audiences. However, the film has no mass masala scenes or action scenes to attract the mass audiences. But for this, the film has all qualities to entertain the mass audiences. The production values of Nallamalupu Bujji are good and the film remind the audiences of Venkatesh’s entertainers like ‘Nuvvu Naaku Nachav’ and ‘Aadavari Maatalaku Ardhale Verule.’ Though the storyline is a routine, the director gave it a novel treatment.
