Cameraman VK Murthy gets Dadasaheb Phalke Award

VK Murthy became the first ever cinematographer to get the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2008. The award was conferred by President Pratibha Patil on March 19. Along with the award, Murthy received a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a Swarna Kamal and a shawl.

VK Murthy is best remembered as the cinematographer for all Guru Dutt films. He has been cinematographer for films Ziddi (1948), Baazi (1951), Jaal (1952), Pyasa (1957) and Chaudhvin ka Chand (1960), among others.
