Some of the much hyped Bollywood films with top stars made by prestigious production houses and directed by top notch directors released in 2008 sank at the box office without any trace.
This film from Yash Raj Films had a star cast of Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor with her size zero and bikini act. The film barked about the real life couple Saif and Kareena’s reel life chemistry. But it earned the name of a super-flop.
Love Story 2050
For son Harman’s debut in Bollywood, Harry Baweja chose a subject which gave Harman a chance to showcase his skills as an actor, a dancer and a fighter. He even spent crores on SFX to give the film a futuristic look. He had Priyanka Chopra as Harman’s co-star.
When Love Story 2050 hit the screens, the paying public were missing from the next day.
Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic
The combination of Yash Raj Films- Kunal Kohli- Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee had delivered a huge hit with Hum Tum a few years back. The same team came together with Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic with huge expectations. The audience failed to see any pyaar or magic.
Himesh Reshammiya donning the role of Monty, a role immortalized by Rishi Kapoor in Subhash Ghai’s Karz created a great hype.
Once Karzzzz opened, people were greatly disappointed. Many could not digest the remake of a cult film.
Abhishek and Goldie had made Drona a fantasy film with swordfights, horse chases and batman-like flights. The film with Priyanka Chopra as heroine, was touted as one of the biggest and most expensive films of the year with huge amounts of money spent on special effects, costumes, sets and action sequences. When the film opened the audience just yawned with fatigue.
Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. has had a terrific run at the box office with some big hits like Bhagam Bhag, Golmaal, Jab We Met and so on. Hence, when they joined hands with Dhoom director Sanjay Gadhvi to make an action packed thriller Kidnap everyone had great expectations.
With Sanjay Dutt pitted against latest kid on the block-Imran Khan and Minissha Lamba providing the glam quotient everyone expected Kidnap to become the hit of the year.
The public simply walked out of theatres.
