Bollywood film titles go flunky and funny
Right from Karan Johar’s “Wake Up Sid” to Farhan Akhtar’s “Kartik Calling Kartik“, coining flunky film titles has become the norm for Bollywood film makers in search of unique or unusual titles to attract the audience.
From the use of numbers based on numerology to a mix of English and Hindi words (Hinglish), producers and directors say they try to grab viewer attention right from the film title.
Farhan, the bright young film maker, says that the title of his forthcoming film titled “Kartik Calling Kartik” is in the least a most intriguing title.
Other such film names include Raj Kumar Santoshi’s “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani“, Rajat Kapur’s “Rectangular Love Story“, Shyam Benegal’s “Abba Ka Kuan“, Deepti Naval’s “Do Paise Ki Dhoop, Chaar Aane Ki Baarish“, Sanjay Dutt starrer “Chatur Singh Two Star” and Vishal Bhardwaj’s “Kaminay“.
Atul Pandey is directing films like “Jalebi Culture” and “Laaton Ke Bhoot“.
Among some names that have stood out in the last couple of years are “Taxi No.9211“, “Manorama Six Feet Under“, “A Wednesday”, “Honeymoon Travels Private Ltd” and “Dev D“,
Finally, Indian cinema, starting from entitling, is going symbolic both literally and figuratively.
