Shah Rukh Khan’s Billu Barber directed by Priydarshan was originally planned for a Diwali release. This is a remake of Mammootty’s Malayalam movie Katha Parayumbol.
But then, the Tamil film Kuselan and Telugu version Kathanayakudu, remakes of the same Malayalam film, starring Rajinikanrth and directed by P Vasu of Chandramukhi fame, sank at the box office without any trace. This was the greatest disaster for Rajinikanth after his Baba.
Perhaps, learning lessons from the Tamil-Telugu remake, SRK wisely postponed Billu Barber from the Diwali release date. The buzz is that some portions of the film has been reshot according to a modified script, to avoid the fate of Rajini’s remake of Katha Parayumbol.
Billu Barber is now scheduled to release in the middle of January 2009, clashing with Nikhil Advani’s Chandni Chowk to China starring Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone.
SRK’s Rab Ne Bana De Jodi clearly lost out to Aamir Khan’s Ghajini. Can Billu Barber withstand the onslaught of Akshay? Let us wait and see.
