Bharat Bala’s “The 19th Step” put on hold
Director Bharat Bala’s international project “The 19th Step” appears to have been put on hold for the time being. This film is to be produced in association with Walt Disney productions.
This film project was in the news all along because Japanese superstar Tadanobu Asano plays the male lead and Asin as the female lead. The director sent Asin packing to Kerala to learn the martial arts of Kalaripayattu and Tadanobu.
Bharat Bala and the film’s writer MT Vasudevan Nair spent almost a year doing research for the film. The reason for the film being put on hold is not because of lack of resources, financial or otherwise but that of casting an Indian Hero.
Bala approached Kamal Hasan for the role and he is said to have politely declined. Bala is now considering Vikram for the role and the actor has not yet given his assent.
“The 19th Step” may start as soon as the lead cast is finalized.
