Balu Turns 68
SPB is a voice that spells magic in the hearts of many. The singer who has an unmatched voice and who has been lending his voice to actors in various Indian languages since 45 years, is celebrating his 68th Birthday today.
S.P. Balasubramaniam fondly called as Balu in the industry, was fond of singing from an early age. Since his father wanted him to be an Engineer, he joined the JNTU Ananthapur. But his passion for music made him leave the college and brought him to Chennai to try his luck. He debuted with the Telugu movie Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna in 1996 and the rest is history. Balu’s uniqueness lies in modifying his voice so as to match the heroes’ voices has attained him fame far and wide.
Balu, who has sung more than 40,000 songs, has various records to his credit. He has recorded 21 songs in Kannada in a single day and also 19 songs in Tamil and 16 songs in Hindi each in a day which is a notable achievement and a record. He has won the National award for six times and the Nandi award for 25 times. He was conferred with the ‘Padma Bhushan’ in 2011.
Inspite of his achievements Balu is very down to earth. Pride has not touched him even an inch. We wish him ‘A Very Happy Birthday’. May he enthrall us with his music for many more years to come.
