“Avatar” grosses $ 1 bn in 17 days
James Cameron’s sci-fi film “Avatar”, the most expensive film ever made, might also become the most successful film ever as it broke the 1-billion-dollar mark at box offices worldwide over the weekend.
Since its opening last month, the 3D sci-fi spectacular cine extravaganza has earned more than $350 million in the US and more than $ 670 million in the rest of the world in only 17 days.
The latest box office figures make “Avatar” already the fourth-biggest film ever made. Ahead of it are “Titanic”, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”.
20th Century Fox distribution executive Bert Livingston says “Avatar” is like a freight train out of control and it just keeps on going.
