Ashutosh Gowariker’s Buddha gets foreign costume designer
Ashutosh Gowariker’s forthcoming film Buddha is becoming bigger and better with the passing of everyday.
The film-maker has roped in acclaimed US costume designer April Ferry, who has an enviable career record as a designer having won many awards and nominations including the Academy Awards, BAFTA and Emmy Awards.
April has designed clothes for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, 22 episodes of Rome, Maverick, Free Willy, Frailty and National Security among many others.
A source close to the developments of the movie reveals, “Earlier this month, we had announced a worldwide search for Buddha. We have received over 6,000 photos and videos that have been uploaded to the buddha-movie.com website with visitors from over 100 Countries. The story focuses on the life of Prince Siddhartha and his journey to enlightenment where he becomes known as Buddha.”
Producer, Dr Modi, confirms the announcement saying, “Buddha, is a truly global film and we needed a team that would have a global sensibility and transcend language barriers.”
Ashutosh Gowariker adds, “The past two months of pre-production have been exciting. It has been exhilarating to be working with the April.So, I feel privileged to be working with him on Buddha. Dr. Modi and his co-producer Dileep Singh Rathore are leaving no stone unturned to give me technicians of my choice that will help create 500 B.C. accurately on screen. And meanwhile, the search for the actor to play Buddha continues. I am going through hundreds of auditions that have come in and I must say, we are getting closer to our Buddha.”
