AR Rahman wins 2 Grammy Awards
After music maestro AR Rahman won two Oscars for his music in “Slumdog Millionaire” at last year’s Academy Awards, he was honoured with two Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for his music for the same film..
Rahman won the first Grammy for the best compilation soundtrack for a motion picture category and his song “Jai Ho” won in the best motion picture song category. “God is great again,” said Rahman after receiving the Grammys.
Rahman’s rivals in the soundtrack category included Steve Jordan for “Cadillac Records,” Quentin Tarantino for “Inglourious Basterds”, and the producers of “Twilight” and “True Blood.” In the best song category Rahman’s beaten rivals included Bruce Springsteen for his song “The Wrestler”, from the Oscar-nominated movie of the same name.
Beyonce won six Grammy Awards, including best female pop performance and song of the year for her anthem “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).”
