AR Rahman nominated for World Soundtrack Academy Award

Mozart of Madras AR Rahman has been nominated for the World Soundtrack Academy Award in the best original song category for his composition ‘If I Rise’ from 127 Hours. The WSA award ceremony will be held at Ghent, Belguim on the 22nd of October. However, he had not been nominated in the best film score and composer category.

The other nominees for WSA in the original song written directly for a film are:

  • We Belong Together from Toy Story 3, written and performed by Randy Newman;
  • You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me from Burlesque, written by Diane Warren and performed by Cher;
  • Coming Home from Country Strong, written by Bob DiPiero, Tom Douglas, Hillary Lindsey and Troy Verges and performed by Gwyneth Paltrow;
  • I See The Light from Tangled, written by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater and performed by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi.

So far, AR Rahman is the recipient of 2 Academy Awards (Oscars), 2 Grammy Awards, one BAFTA Award, one Golden Globe, 4 National Film Awards, 14 Filmfare Awards, 13 Filmfare Awards (South).
