Akkineni Nageswar Rao (ANR) one of the pioneering thespians of Tollywood is celebrating his 60th wedding anniversary today.
Akkineni Nageswara Rao was born on September 20, 1924 and made his debut in Tollywood with the film Sri Seeta Rama Jananam in 1944. He acted in 130 films so far which belonged to different genres. His latest film was Chukkallo Chandrudu in 2006.
ANR shot into fame and became a star with Devadasu in 1953. He has many films that were jubilee hits. Sumangali, Premabhishekam, Meghasandesham, Aradhana are some of his many memorable films.
ANR was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1990 for his lifetime contributions to Indian cinema. He is also a recipient of the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. He received NTR National Award for the year 1996.
ANR married Annapoorna in 1949. His studios in Hyderabad are named after his wife.
