Anil Kapoor’s documentary film Trapped By Tradition on human traficking has won the Gold Prize in the Cultural Issues category at the New York Festival’s International TV and Film Awards 2012. The silver prize went to a documentary by Hollywood actress Demi Moore, which focussed on trafficking in Nepal.

Anil Kapoor is an ambassador for ‘The Freedom Project’, an organisation working to eradicate slavery and human trafficking. Other global ambassadors included singer Peter Gabriel, Latin superstar Ricky Martin and actor Ashton Kutcher.

Anil says, “The awareness generated through such documentaries is important for combating this serious global issue.” He says 2,000 women have already been rescued from modern-day slavery as a result of this initiative.
