Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is being honoured by the French Government by bestowing the prestigious Officer Dan Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters). She is the first Asian actress and the youngest Indian to win the honour. It will be conferred on her by the Ambassador of France to India, Jerome Bonnafont, at a ceremony to be held today at New Delhi.
The Officer Dan Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres is the second highest civilian award in France and an equivalent to India’s Padma Vibhushan. This distinction is conferred on people who have achieved immense recognition because of their contribution in the fields of arts, culture or literature.
Other celebs honoured by the French Government with the Officer Dan Ordre include Robert Redford, George Clooney, Meryl Streep and shah rukh khan.
