Aishwarya Rai ambassador for “Smile Train”
Former beauty queen and Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been appointed as the first Goodwill Ambassador of “Smile Train”, an international charity that provides cleft lip and cleft palate surgery to over one million children in 76 developing countries around the world with partnerships with 1100 hospitals.
The Oscar-winning short film “Smile Pinki”, which depicts the transformation in a young girl’s life as her cleft lip is repaired by a “Smile Train” doctor.
“Smile Train” has around 150 partner hospitals in India and has performed over 200,000 surgeries. The Charity will work in association with Aishwarya Rai Foundation in India.
The appointment of Aishwarya Rai as goodwill ambassador is expected to increase the number of hospital partners in India and thus providing cleft lip and cleft palate surgery to more children in India.
