Tadepalli Lakshmi Kanta Rao, known as the mythological hero of Tollywood passed away at 09:50 PM IST at Yashoda Hospital, Hyderabad on March 22nd 2009. He had been suffering from geriatric indispositions and had been admitted in the hospital for cancer treatment.
Kantha Rao (born November, 16 1923 – died March 22, 2009) has acted in more than 400 Telugu mythological, social and folklore movies. He also acted in Hindi, Kannada and Tamil movies. In the 1960s he was the third force in Telugu cinema, along with N.T.Rama Rao and Akkineni Nageshwara Rao.
Kanta Rao was famous for portraying the role of Narada in many mythological films. He also played the roles of Lord Krishna, Arjuna, Panduraj and Lakshmana.
Kanta Rao was the first choice actor for producer-director Janapada Brahma B. Vittalacharya.
Kantha Rao won the Rastrapati Award for his role of Lakshmana in Lava Kusha. He had been conferred with Raghupathi Venkaiah Award by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. His book Anaganaga Oka Raakumaarudu won the Nandi Award for Best Book for the year 2007.
