Abhishek Bachchan follows Chiranjeevi’s “Stalin”
Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has been appointed as the brand ambassador of WWF’s “World Earth Hour” scheduled to take place on March 27, 2010, between 8:30-9:30 p.m. when all the lights will be switched off. The concept behind this campaign is to reduce the use of electricity thereby saving the planet from warming up.
To spread this message, Abhishek took a cue from Chiranjeevi’s hit film “Stalin” and is asking every two Indians to spread the word to two others who in turn inform two more each and the chain of campaign multiplies in geometric progression.
“World Earth Hour” started in Sydney, Australia, in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned off their lights for an hour as a stand against climate change. The campaign has now gone global and in 2009 more than 5 million people in 4000 cities across 88 countries switched off their lights to pledge their support towards this noble cause.
The WWF started in 1961 stood for “World Wildlife Fund”. During the 80s the legal name became “WWF-World Wide Fund For Nature”. Currently there are more than 1300 WWF conservation projects underway around the world.
