US retail giant and the world’s largest retailer Wal-Mart and India’s Bharti group opened their first cash-and-carry joint venture store in Amritsar on Saturday with an investment of around Rs 35 Cr.
The Amritsar store, spread over about 50,000 square feet, will provide 200 direct and 500 indirect jobs.
Wal-Mart and Bharti plan to open at least 15 outlets across the country, particularly Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in the next three years employing more than 5,000 people.
These stores will be run under the brand name of Best Price Modern Wholesale.
Bharti Wal-Mart India has tied up with 30,000 retailers and 8,000 suppliers and expecting more such tie-ups.
