Sensex improved for a second straight day on Thursday led by gains in index heavy-weight Reliance Industries. Buying in IT scrips provided additional support.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 14349.26 up 129 points or 0.91 per cent. The 30-share index touched a high of 14,449.81 and low of 14,196.68.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty ended at 4316.65 up 64.50 points or 1.52 per cent. The index touched a high of 4324.75 and low of 4230 during the day. BSE Midcap Index ended marginally lower at 5,730.73, down 0.28 per cent while BSE Smallcap Index ended 0.92 per cent higher at 7,122.99.
Biggest Sensex gainers were Ambuja Cement (up 6.54%), Wipro (4.6%), Reliance Industries (4.45%), Cipla (3.76%) and Satyam Computer (3.62%). Maruti Suzuki (down 2.53%), Reliance Communications (2.22%), Hindalco Industries (2.19%), Ranbaxy Laboratories (2.19%) and Hindustan Unilever (1.67%) were the major losers.
Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 1,465 advances and 1,154 declines.
