Inflation soars to 7.57 percent

In spite of the assurances given by the Finance Minister to control rising prices, the rate of inflation continued to soar during the week ended April 19 to touch a 42-month high of 7.57 per cent, mainly owing to increased prices of vegetables, food articles, certain manufactured items, including steel, and some fuel products.
At this level, the point-to-point inflation based on the wholesale price index (WPI) was up 24 basis points from 7.33 per cent in the previous week,
