Indian Foreign Secretary Menon rushing to Colombo
The Government of India is dispatching Today its Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon and National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan to Colombo in the wake of continued killings of Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka where its Army is fighting a last ditch battle with the terror outfit Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)
External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee held a meeting with the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to review the situation in Sri Lanka. Defence Minister A.K. Antony, Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Narayanan and Menon were also present at the meeting. The decision to rush Narayanan and Menon was taken at this meeting.
Narayanan and Menon are expected to meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka to convey India’s concerns about theTamil civilian casualities to the Sri Lankan government.
