Religious leaders have capacity to control terrorism
Many urban middle classes, a section of media and the BJP have in rhetorical tone demanded the Indian government declare war against Pakistan for the Mumbai mayhem a la US action after 9/11.
The demand appears to be very reasonable for a country that has been battered by the terrorists from the country next door and been facing terrorism for far longer than by US and other European nations. In real sense, a war is going to push the nation into the most dangerous situation. Now all the senseless violence and killings perpetrated in India and Pakistan has one generic relation of religion.
Though US destroyed Afghanistan as a country and pushing Pakistan into the same direction yet is not able to eliminate any of the declared offenders. And after 9/11 terrorist activities have increased many folds across the world in general and in Asian countries in particular. Each passing year has seen an increase in budgetary allocation for the security sector.
One of the many suggested solutions is that the present terrorism has its roots in religion; hence political leaders leave the issue to the religious leaders who have some sagacious and open approach to stem the rot of terrorism.
