10 unseen vintage photos of 1947

It was way back in February 1947 when the first meeting about independent India’s constitution was held. There was a preliminary conference after which a resolution for an independent republic was passed in the Constituent Assembly in New Delhi. India finally gained independence on 15th August 1947.

What followed was the formation of two countries – India and Pakistan. These vintage photos capture how people gathered to ship out for their new homes and how Muslim refugees from India stayed at refugee camps. The photos also capture the Muslims at an ancient fort in Pakistan waiting to be moved to India.
